Who We Are

Celebrating since 2008!

The “Celebrate Los Osos” began in January 2008. We are an all-volunteer community-based organization whose motto is “making a difference, one project at a time.” We work to improve public spaces in Los Osos | Baywood Park, California.

Our goals are to:

  • Improve the appearance of our community,

  • Conserve our resources, and

  • Regenerate a positive community spirit.

We utilize volunteers to plant, paint, beautify, repair, refurbish and maintain projects that directly involve many community members in order to stimulate community pride by working together, and leave a legacy for all to enjoy.

We are the descendants of Los Osos Community Organization (LOCO) which for two decades sponsored a number of projects and events.

The Spirit of Los Osos | Baywood Park

Here, the spirit of volunteerism and the love of place have a long history and abiding community commitment: the Elfin Forest, Sweet Springs Nature Preserve, Bridge Bears, South Bay Community Center, Los Osos Community Park, and the murals depicting local history. All were either established and/or are maintained by volunteers.

Volunteering is the most fundamental act of citizenship and philanthropy in our society. It is offering time, energy, and skills to help others and the community we live in. Caring and contributing, volunteers work to improve the lives of their neighbors and, in return, enhance their own.

Celebrate Los Osos’ projects to benefit Los Osos | Baywood since 2008 — all done with volunteers!

• Restored the iconic large redwood “welcome” signs

• Refurbished the Bridge Bear statues by Paula Zima at the entrances to town

• Designed, enlarged, and built the family picnic area and planted new oak trees at the Red Barn

• Painted the Red Barn, Los Osos’ favorite event site and installed its very first sign

• Placed permanent signage and organized regular clean-ups at the Cuesta Inlet

• Restored the Portola mural

• Placed a viewing scope at Sweet Springs

• Helped the Baywood Navy to restore the pier

• Replaced the way-finding sign in Baywood with a new, bigger, better sign made of ipe

• Placed two concrete and pipe benches on County land for the public to enjoy forever — plus many other projects

We have worked cooperatively with the San Luis Obispo County Public Works, Planning, Parks, and Sheriff’s Departments; the California Department of Fish and Wildlife; the Morro Bay National Estuary Program; Cal Poly Landscape Architecture Department; and local organizations such as Kiwanis, Rotary, the Los Osos/Baywood Park Chamber of Commerce, and the Baywood Navy.

Goals
Celebrate Los Osos is dedicated to making a difference — one project at a time. We’re an all-volunteer, community-based, non-profit group committed to plant, paint, build, beautify, restore, and maintain landmarks and public spaces. We do projects that directly engage and involve community members. We hope to instill and support community pride by working together as neighbors.

Los Osos Estuary Quotes
Volunteers don’t get paid, not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless!
